The waiting is finally over! Latest issue of The Dorset Rover (April/May) now dispatched by e-mail and snail-mail. Usual plea – if you don’t get one at all, and you think you should be getting one, let me know; if you get it in the wrong format – paper rather than electronic, or vice versa, similarly let me know. e-mail me to editor@dorsetrover.co.uk Hope you enjoy it!

UCR 89 DIMSTONE HILL - MAPPERTON

UCR 89 DIMSTONE HILL – MAPPERTON

A new gate has been placed across UCR 89 and has been ILLEGALLY LOCKED CLOSED. Therefore, the UCR is currently illegally blocked.

UCR 89 DIMSTONE HILL – MAPPERTON

The matter is being dealt with urgently by DCC Highways and DCC Rights of Way.

Please do not be tempted to cut the chain etc but let the appropriate authorities deal with the matter.

HOWEVER, Please report to me ANY ILLEGAL UCR/BOAT closures, blockages etc immediately you find them. I need a National Grid Reference and photographs (taken with your phone) to be able to get swift action initiated.

Many thanks

IMPORTANT UPDATE 4/4/17: CRIMINAL DAMAGE BY IRRESPONSIBLE 4X4 DRIVER CAUSES MAJOR PROBLEMS FOR ALL!

As the Rights of Way Officer for DLRC I informed on 16th March 2017 both our members and DCC Highways of the illegal blockage of UCR 89.

DCC Highways subsequently contacted the landowner to explain that the gate could not be locked so that drivers could exercise their highway right.

However, at a site meeting when DCC Highways and the landowner arrived to look at the southern end of the UCR, unknown individuals had cropped the chain, left the gate open, had driven onto the UCR and then instead of keeping to the track drove along the length of the adjacent field.

Understandably, the landowner has now involved the Police and DCC Highways have officially asked that ALL Dorset Land Rover Club Members avoid UCR 89 until further notice.

What would have been a simple matter to resolve has now turned into a major problem.

The landowner is now insisting that the longstanding problem with the alignment of the UCR be resolved and until that happens it will remain closed.

Without doubt this act of criminal damage and illegal off road driving is yet another prime example of a small minority basically doing what they think is acceptable and eventually ruining it for ALL.

Hi all,

The monthly GreenRoading (GR) day for April will be the weekend prior to the easter weekend.

At this point I would ask your preferred date, either the 8th or 9th of April.

This GR day is to “shake out” prior to the easter weekend.

For those of us planning to go to Wales, the experience is very different, with longish road sections to get to the long GR sections.

Therefore the wear and tear on vehicles can be different.

The plan is to drive up and around North Dorset, venturing into Wilts, maybe even as far as the southern edges of Salisbury Plain.

Please leave your thoughts, comments and preferred date, (8/9) in the comments to this post.

As always, there is no “first come first serve” and noone will be refused.

Details for the route and the admin instructions will be sent out the weekend before.

Hope to see you all soon.

Steve
