Please get hold of me if you want any information about the weekend!
Hi fellow clubbers!!!
This is just a quick heads up to add to Caz’s post on the website about the April “easter excursion” to South Wales.
With the advice and knowledge of club members, and local subject matter experts in the route planning, this weekend has the potential to be a fantastic club weekend away, in a beautiful part of the country, allowing us to enjoy our vehicles as they were meant and to relax in good company.
At the moment there will be two routes for the weekend, a route around west Brecon Beacons on day 1, allowing us to stretch our legs and familiarise ourselves with the difference in terrain, conditions and environment, and to keep an eye out for the local wildlife!! and day 2, Strata Florida, weather and conditions dependant, which is one of, if not the, best green roads in Wales.
To give people some idea of distances here are some factoids!!
Dorchester to Brecon 144 miles 2 hrs 44 mins (if not in a defender!!)
Brecon to Strata Florida Abbey 58 miles approximately 2hrs in convoy (with defenders!!!)
Day 1 route will be around 35 miles long with green roads around 15-20 miles.
Day 2 the Strata Florida green road is 7 miles long, with multiple fords!! and takes approximately 5-6 hours at best, so is a day trip in itself. Vehicles wishing to take part in this run are recommended to have a snorkel and extended breather hoses fitted, and wading plugs ready for fitting, this is due to the varying depths of the fords that could be encountered. This is not a pre-requisite and it is up to the owners discretion whether they adhere to this, however, don’t let this put you off, anything is achievable!!
There will be start times and locations distributed nearer the time, it will then be up to everyone to get there themselves.
Accommodation will be up to the individuals, however, there are a number of campsites in and around Brecon also B&B’s and hotels. I’m sure we will all get together at some point one evening!!!
Please remember that Dorset Land Rover Club accepts NO responsibility for any damage caused to participating vehicles.
If anyone has any questions, please ask away.
The green roading trip planned for the 4th of Feb will now take place on the 4th of March.
This is with a proviso, as always, that the green roads are “suitable” to travel over.
Those NOT already put their names down but want to come then please leave your name below in the comments!
Unfortunately due to the weather this week and the conditions on the ground, this saturday’s green roading has been postponed.
I will keep you informed of the rescheduled event.
